Michael and Melissa – A Destination Wedding in Key West, Florida

Michael and Melissa share a love story that many photographers desire to capture. Between his smitten affection for her and the constant vibrancy she has, adoring his personality, there was perfection lingering in the air. There are some people that are undoubtably made for one another and these two walk in that very definitive statement. They hosted the wedding of a lifetime at Casa Marina, a Waldorf Astoria resort tucked between perfection and serenity in Key West, Florida. We arrived in Key West and were greeted with 80 degree weather and breathtaking scenery. Just when we thought the trip couldn’t get any more beautiful, their wedding day arrived and modeled perfection.

Michael & Melissa chose to have their first look on an exposed rock formation in the middle of the water, accessible from the private beach at Casa Marina.   The serenity of the ocean, a barefoot bride glowing as she awaited for her groom, and a teary-eyed groom standing in the tropical sun awaiting his forever…it was a beautifully intimate moment.  After their first look and waiting upon guest to be seated, Melissa strolled in beauty to her groom, meeting him at the edge of the American coast. Supported and surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues the couple exchanged vows and a kiss and then celebrated with champagne and tears of joy. While their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour, Michael and Melissa slipped away to enjoy the sunset together and breathe in the moment, making irreplaceable memories. As the sun set with deep oranges and reds the night roared with celebration.  The food was exquisite, the atmosphere inviting, and the love was overflowing.Heartfelt speeches, cheerful toasts, classic dance moves…the love that was shared between Michael & Melissa and their family, friends, and colleagues was evidenced in the smiles on the faces and the tears running down their cheeks.Michael and Melissa, thanks so much for having us along to photograph your day! We made great memories in this adventure and we hope you will treasure these moments forever.

A Sweet Little Fam

Hey! Happy Wednesday!  Thanks for stopping by and checking the blog to see all the latest happenings around here.

I’m so excited to share with you one of the sweetest little families in Goldsboro.  LeeAnn and Josh met in October of 2010 at a friends house where they casually watched movies, played games, and ate mini gummy bears.  Yum!  Six months ago, LeeAnn gave birth to a sweet little boy named Jaxon & he has become their joy and ultimately the center of their world.  This weekend, LeeAnn and Josh are exchanging marriage vows in a small intimate ceremony & I’m so thrilled to share these photos of them with you so close to their wedding.  Their love for one another is strong, sincere, and growing everyday.  The way LeeAnn makes Josh smile with just one glance, the way he encourages her in her dreams and in raising their son, the way they are complete opposites but yet so perfect for one another….I hope these photos embody that.

Josh & LeeAnn- Best wishes for a wonderful life together.  You guys made capturing these moments so easy.  I hope these memories fill your hearts and your home for years to come.  Congratulations!

The Reed Family is Growing!

When Valerie contacted me to photograph her maternity photos, I felt an extreme sense of urgency in her request by the way she so gracefully asked, “How soon can you photograph our family?  I really need some maternity photos taken.”  So, I simply replied with a date and time and so desperately wondered when she was due.  It wasn’t until the day of her session that I realized she was less than 2 weeks away from having baby #2!  At any moment I wondered if the baby were to come, how I would blog their session and explain the story; but thankfully, for your sake, mine, and Valerie’s, baby #2 is still curled up inside mommy’s belly awaiting its debut into the world.

As you browse through these images, embrace the feeling of excitement for the Reed Family, now a family of 3, but any day now, a  beautiful family of four.  I can only imagine the feeling of wonder and joy that their hearts are feeling as they patiently prepare for the little one’s arrival.  Valerie & Richard always choose to let the gender be a surprise, so I thought it would be fun to take votes as to whether you think it will be a boy or a girl…..so be sure to let them know what you think in the comment section below.  If you ask their sweet daughter, Reece, she will softly say, “I am having a sister…..and her name will be sister.”

So there you have it folks, meet Valerie, Richard, Reece, and …….”Sister”!

After photographing Lisa and Akili’s wedding we had a few days to explore Northern California by driving down the winding ocean highways towards San-Francisco. The adventure we were embarking on created an explosion inside our hearts.  We didn’t have a detailed itinerary, just the notion to be free and full of adventure.

Our journey started where we photographed the wedding, Eureka, CA. If you looked at the pictures of the wedding you can see that Eureka was absolutely breathtaking. We drove on Redwood Highway until we reached the tiny community of Miranda where we had booked a cabin to sleep in for the night. Under the protection and wisdom of the Redwoods we stayed in this one room cabin; it was just the two of us and the perfection of serenity  (unless you count the 2 fluffy cats that somehow would meander into our room).  But nonetheless, it was ever so peaceful.  The next morning we began heading south towards Pointe Reyes Lighthouse.  We took the scenic route through Avenue of the Giants and took a few minutes to drive through some trees…definitely something that doesn’t happen everyday!

The closer we got to Point Reyes Lighthouse, the more breathtaking the scenery surrounding our tiny Suzuki rental car became.  The thunderous hills that rolled from the mountains and wine valleys into the waves of the Pacific were full of cows! They had it made… at least for the time they were roaming.  To celebrate the “cute” cows (as Britt would say), we ate range-free beef and the freshest organic produce along the way.  Britt isn’t even a big fan of burgers and she made a happy plate out of hers!    Pointe Reyes was a sight for sure; there are almost no words to describe the experience. We raced down the steps of the Visitor center and stood chest to ocean and watched the whales; just in time before the winter peak came when they would begin heading out. The rocky cliffs around us were so far from the NC ocean and everything around us was so serene; at times we had to ask ourselves if we were in another region of the world. Then we braved the 300 steps back up to the visitor center–the equivalent of 30 stories and we continued the adventure towards San-Franciso, arriving under the Golden Gate at sunset and exploring some of the most famous city streets, Fisherman’s Wharf, and of course Ghirardelli Square.

These photographs are why we believe in our dreams and passions for photography. We can write a little something sweet about our trip, but these pictures will always recall the memories.  We hope you enjoy our moments half as much as we did!

When I got an inquiry to go to California and photograph this beautiful friend of mine and her now husband as they “eloped”, if you will, into the Redwood Forest, I was filled with excitement! I’m not going to front – It’s a legit place to be. I was very ecstatic to bring my love along to explore the beautiful state of California and to cross off the Redwoods from his “bucket list”.   Lisa & Akili’s big day was a monumental one, it was a day where my love for Kevin, my friends, my passion for my photography, and my re-discovered childlike love of adventure collided in the middle of nature.  Literally, there were 6 of us in the forest when they stood hand in hand: the couple, Kevin and I, a friend of the couple, and the officiant. All you could hear in the tranquility of the ceremony was dew dropping in applause of the vows being spoken. It was our honor to serve Lisa and Akili on their day. This is one wedding that can be written-in with the word “unforgettable”. I wish you both the best of all things in life, love, and faith! I’m so happy to have your wedding as the first that I share on my blog!
