One our favorite things to do is to explore locally! We love to spend our date nights out and about at what some call ‘mom & pop’ shops, ‘a hole in the wall’, or a ‘hidden city gem’. “Gardners Go Local” is our way of sharing these “gems” with you. We love walking into an environment to experience culture and gain appreciation for the quaint creativity of all things local. We’re starting off with one of our absolute favorites: Los Fogones.
Walking in is the one of the best experiences. Your mouth begins to water as the smell of Carlos’ rotisserie dances on your taste buds. Carlos… ah yes… Chef and owner of Los Fogones Peruvian Cuisine Restaurant, Carlos Herrera… more about him in a minute. So back to the aroma… their chicken gracefully cooks on a charcoal rotisserie and you know it when you walk in the door. I would have to say it the best steak and chicken in Goldsboro – and so would many others with the awards Los Fogones has won at local cookouts, judged entires, etc. Apparently they were voted best BBQ! That’s something any Eastern North Carolinian should be interested in! Carlos was born in Peru and moved to the States, finding opportunities in restaurants where he crafted his cooking, leading him to many high-end chef positions. He told us he had cooked it all: asian, mexican, american, seafood, european, and so the list kept going. I think this is why I most appreciate Los Fogones. Carlos understands good food and it’s always been delivered with perfection every time! We’ll let the photos speak for themselves…
